Aeirune Maldvey

Aeirune Maldvey – Breton Mercenary, born 2E 549 (32 years old)

Andole was born in House Maldvey, a minor noble house in Rivenspire with holdings along the fertile northern shore of the land. His family was responsible for several modest farmsteads and the people who worked on the farms. His older brother and himself studied at the Temple in Northpoint, following in the footsteps of their father. His mother had passed away when he was around the age of 7. His life was a quiet one, but it was pleasant and without great hardship.

House Maldvey of Rivenspire sided with their liege, Ranser King of Shornhelm, against the forces of Wayrest led by King Emeric as a result of the insult given when Emeric did not marry Ranser’s daughter Rayelle. As the war dragged on House Maldvey, as with several other houses, saw the growing madness in King Ranser, but by then it was too late to correct their decision.

Aeirune was of age (he was 17 at the time of the war) and served as a man-at-arms to his older brother. By taking arms against Emeric he had committed the crime of treason, but his family withdrew support from Ranser before the battle at what is now called Traitor’s Tor, Aeirune was released from his service, though his father and brother stayed with King Ranser to try to prevent future bloodshed in the war. When the Orcs stormed the fortress his father and brother were killed in the fighting.

House Maldvey was effectively destroyed, its holdings reverted to King Emeric as the house was branded a traitor, and was given to another noble house as reward for supporting Emeric. Aeirune had nowhere else to turn, and became a mercenary, using the skills he had with the blade and bow to earn his coin.

Appearance The years are showing on Aeirune, his dark hair has a touch of gray in it and his eyes are hard. He has watched too many companions fall in battle, and seen too much death. A scar runs across his features, a valuable lesson he learned in a fight from his service in Ranser's War. Not a large man, he is lean and well muscled, with a fighting style of quick reflexes and precise strikes. Aeirune prefers to wear heavy armor in the style of the Breton people, and fights with a bow or dual-wielded axe and sword.

Personality Because of what happened at Traitor's Tor, Aeirune has always held a dislike for Orcs. The hatred he initially felt has softened over the years, especially serving with Orcs in various mercenary companies, but he still has a distaste and distrust for Orcs. While he respects what High King Emeric has done, he holds little love for the King and has never given his allegiance to the King or Daggerfall Covenant. He would not betray his own people, but that alliance has little significance to him Aeirune as it has cost his family everything they had. Aierune is well spoken and careful in both thought and deed, a carryover from his training at Temple. He still takes very seriously his faith in the Eight and the power that the Divines hold, it is perhaps the one part of his past that he still finds comfort in.

Love how you've weaved in elements of the plot-line into your character's background!

Thank you. I wanted to keep it game-lore compatible but keep the feel of my vision for the character.
